So I'm going to be a godmother. My friend Sue's sister Aimee is having her third child tomorrow and she was trying to figure out godparents, but has run out of Catholics. I can relate as I'm already running out, myself. Anyway, Aimee and Sue thought of me since they've known me at least since we were all in Brownies together, if not earlier, and I'm apparently more trustworthy than other potential candidates that they're actually related to.
This means that I have to get a letter from my church and I hope they're not going to be overly strict about it since I haven't been in attendance much since Nora was born, and only slightly more than that before she was born.
But then again, whose to say that I haven't been going, but just haven't been using my envelopes? Right? I'm just saying...

Date: 2009-03-12 02:07 pm (UTC)From:How is it that when I was growing up, all I knew were Catholics (in Catholic school, it couldn't be avoided), yet we also had a problem finding Catholics for Godparents. Particularly men.
Funny that you have to get a letter. Burlington diocese apparently doesn't care about such formalities. They just asked where the Godparents were baptized, I think.
Oh, and our church doesn't do envelopes. Our priest always knows who goes, though, because the church is so small. You should have heard him at confession (had to set the example for Jacob...) telling me all about how there is a Saturday mass that I could go to, hint, hint. :)

We're getting a new, bigger church while other parishes are closing. They have six or seven masses every weekend, but they're seriously all inconvenient for me right now.
Some priests don't care about the letters. I've seen that. I don't appear to be that lucky on this one, and my church was pretty stringent about that when Nora was baptized.

Is John Catholic? Can't remember...
Oh, and I'm amused that 6 or 7 masses could all be inconvenient. *I* get it, but I'm sure the priest would think your are nutso. I want to get there every week, but with John's schedule, it often feels like impossible. I feel guilty, because Jacob is doing 1st communion the first weekend in May, and he really isn't used to going to church. Bad me.
