Expensive crabs

the hermit crab hut was back in the middle of the mall when we were there yesterday picking up free underwear from Victoria's Secret, and i was very tempted by a couple of highly active medium sized crabs.  so i asked the girl what the prices were for them.  9 bucks for a small one!  12 for medium!  and i totally shut down after that so i don't know what astronomical price they were asking for the large and jumbo.  i informed that was incredibly expensive, but she seemed to think it was justified because they were painted.  i don't care about that.  whenever i get ones with painted shells, they move into a plain one anyway.  and that's still too damn expensive.  so i walked away from the crab hut empty handed.  john was proud of me.

when i went into PetSmart later to pick up some Turtle Clean, i checked out their crabs.  fancy ones were going for 5 bucks.  i wouldn't buy them from PetSmart because there's always a leg or something lying around the tank, but i'm just saying.

I detest most people that sell hermit crabs because it's obvious they are stressing them out with overcrowding, not enough shells, and letting the public touch them.

I couldn't look at any of the hermit crab bins while we were at the beach because it was too depressing.

i have a couple of independent pet stores that i usually buy from and i've talked with them enough to know they take good care of them. the hut is plenty spacious, but they are being touched constantly the entire day so that can't be good.
