there are a lot of creatures living on our property besides those that reside in the house. and even more than just the baby spiders that we had to take out in hordes of 20 or more at a time.
i finally thought to put the turtle out in his baby pool friday. while i was getting the hose going, i spotted one of the many frogs that we've been finding all over the backyard. because of the rain, we had a giant puddle back there, as well, and there was another one swimming around in there. so we got an idea. we put Forest in his pool and then easily found a couple of frogs to catch and placed them on the rock in the pool. we kept an eye on them to make sure Forest wasn't going to get in touch with his inner carnivore, but he has lived with other animals before that he's never bothered. in fact, he was totally freaked out by them. they kept trying to sit on him and he would suck his head in. i got some fantastic pictures. but eventually they both figured out that they could climb up the pool wall and hop out. we watched them both take off. and we still see them around the yard. i commune with them periodically and they no longer seem all that bothered by us.
so then last night, john lets the dog out for the last time before going to bed and for some reason, beezley is out there a really long time, especially in this heat when we normally have to drag him out. john realizes he's chasing something. turns out it's a baby bunny. so we leave it alone in the hopes that the head rabbit will rescue it over night. it's still there in the morning, along with a sibling that john probably just didn't see last night. anyway. i call the SPCA and listen to the recording about bunnies and it says to put them back in the nest and they'll be fine. but he dug up the nest so i actually talk to the guy who suggests that i could bring them in. so i get a good shoe box, put some grass and the remains of the nest in it, and put on my gardening gloves to go pick them up. but they take off. the SPCA had also said if their eyes are open and they're at least hamster size, and if they're not hurt, then they are okay to be on their own. so i sort of pushed them out of beezley range and i'm hoping they'll be okay.
