just to update the previous stupid ass argument, john called his mom and asked her if she'd be okay if we donated the cd rack to the benefit. she's thinking about it, but even if she says no, i'm quite satisfied that john tried.
Go John!! BTW my mother-in-law's basement is so cluttered with stuff that it is literally a maze, floor to ceiling. Upstairs is getting to be that way. You should see my husband's old bedroom. You can barely move it in. It makes him REALLY sad. Her problem is her obsession with having to have EVERYTHING. Crap or not, she has to have it. She loves the Christmas Tree store. My husband calls it the crap store. We literally get a basket of crap every christmas. I have finally convinced him that we don't need to keep it and we donate about 90% of it to Charity right after Christmas. Her need for everything extends to recipes. It is so irritating that everytime I make something she HAS to have the recipe. Anyway, I feel for you. I really do. I think it is hard to communicate with an irrational parent, maybe even more so for men. You really should be proud.
i'm working on him. it doesn't help that i came from knick knack collectors and have a little of that madness as well. but i'm also very pro closet cleaning, garage sale having, salvation army donating. and john is getting more and more into that. and i've lately gotten real brutal about keeping useless crap regardless of who gave it to me.
