so it snowed over night friday - enough that i shoveled saturday, but not enough for me to be aggravated that john wasn't around to snow blow. and then it melted sunday. and today it was in the 60s. now most people around here are happy to have a warm day like this so unexpectedly. not me. i know Buffalo weather. i know that when i'm driving home at 8:30 at night and it's the end of November and it's 65 degrees, that is bad. it means that we are in for something very, very unfriendly.
see, i'm all for the quick jump to really cold temperatures. let me explain a little something called lake effect. when freezing cold air goes over Lake Erie and the lake is warmer than the air, it stirs shit up and that's when we get nasty lake effect snow. Lake Erie is small enough that it does eventually freeze over most years, which cuts out the lake effect eventually. so i can totally get behind winter going right directly to really cold winter. last year we had no lake effect at all because it froze quite quickly. sure the cold part sucked, but the lack of seven feet of snow all at once was worth it.
