here's why i love buffalo.
since i finished reading Pride & Prejudice at 1:18 am, i took myself to go see the movie this afternoon. when i left, it was cold, but sunny and dry. i was very pleased with myself for making it there in 11 minutes, no small feat going down Transit on the busiest shopping day of the year.
good movie. it was a 3:35 show and it ended a bit before six. i was walking out of the ridiculously crowded theatre when i stopped dead in my tracks. there was a full-blown snow storm going on out there. we're talking half a foot of snow already landed, falling extremely quickly, crappy visibility. and me without a hat.
everyone in the world that wasn't shopping was at the movies so i had a long walk to my car and when i got there, i was head to toe white. brushed off my car, but it was the kind of snow that fell faster than i could brush off. decided at this point that i'd put off my few shopping errands until tomorrow, and was grumbling to myself about having to shovel while john is away because i don't know how to work the snowblower.
finally got the car relatively cleaned off and it took forever to get out of the parking lot and a bit more than forever to get much past the parking lot due to the combination of snow and rush hour.
so it was probably a good 15 minutes before i got a mile. and then i noticed my wipers probably didn't need to be going so fast anymore and the traffic was much better. the roads were clearing up, too. probably could have stopped at the mall, but i wasn't so sure the storm wasn't traveling and didn't feel like having to brush off the car again.
well, by the time i got to my end of Transit, there was absolutely nothing on the roads or in the sky. i mean, this was less than ten miles from half a foot and still falling to still visible grass.
and that is why i love buffalo. or more appropriately, living in the northtowns where it doesn't snow so much, but able to get to the southtowns if you really want some.
