How did I miss this?

Anne Rice has a new book that came out today. i'm a little irritated that i didn't know it was coming so now i have to run out and get it while i'm already trying to read both Grimm's fairy tales and the Chronicles of Narnia. in any case, interesting choice of date for her, especially given the subject matter.

she is done with vampires and is now writing about Jesus. this one is about Jesus as a kid. more to follow. i saw an interview this morning on the Today Show and she's had some rediscovery of the Catholic church and is planning on sticking closely with the Gospels. none of the exploring with the relationship with Mary Magdalene for her.

i think there will be many that will be turned off by her change. for me, though, it will probably work. i get her thing with Catholicism and i get her thing with vampires. i get where it all ties together and progresses one into the other. and i also really, really, really liked Memnoch the Devil where she put the two together in one book.

still, i'm going to miss the vampires.

Yes, I saw that interview and I'm skeptical. And kind of uninterested. I was almost going to say I'm uninterested since she's only going to write about the gospels instead of making stuff up, but since my position on the Bible is that it might be fiction anyway, I guess she could still be writing about made-up stuff. Interesting to wait and see if religous groups freak out about the vampire writer writing about Jesus.

i'm a pretty die hard anne rice fan so we'll see. i am a little disappointed that she's not planning on elaborating with the story a bit, though. from a religious scholar perspective, there's a lot more gospels in existence that weren't chosen by the old white dudes who put the bible together back in the day. they were handpicked. but that doesn't mean the others didn't have pertinent information. just not information the old white dudes wanted the general public to have. so i'm disappointed that she didn't look into that at all and work with that, as well.
