due to our water damage over the winter, the homeowner's insurance is paying for the guys downstairs to be repairing and painting. our family room is where we keep, well, everything. so we spent all weekend boxing up our hundreds of cds and dvds, photo albums, books, dog toys, dog beds, dog crate, entertainment center, electronics,... they were supposed to come wednesday and thursday and john was going to stay home from work. however, due to the crappy weather we're having, they wanted to come today if at all possible while they postpone other exterior jobs. i happen to be off today so i'm hiding out upstairs with the restless dog.

while we have everything boxed up and whatnot, we figure why not replace that crap carpet in the family room. they come on friday. now i wish they were coming sooner. oh well.

i'm trying to avoid reading about personality disorders, but there is absolutely nothing on TV. even Starz on Demand has crap and last night's Conan that i DVRed is a repeat.

----------

they have a new version of I Love the 80s this week. we were watching 1980 last night and they were making fun of the movie, My Bodyguard. i've never seen it, but john realized that the big dude in the movie is Jayne from Serenity. i would never have recognized him, but john has an eye for obscurity.

so the flu shot is in the news again. i've never had one because it's an egg based shot and somewhere once upon a time i had a reaction to an egg based shot. no one knows if it was because of the egg, but to be on the safe side, it's been suggested i avoid egg based shots. perhaps it's the paint fumes, but it got me thinking. does that mean vegans don't get the flu shot?

I don't know for sure, but if I had to guess, I would say that vegans would not get a flu shot. Most vegans I know tend to be a tad on the alternative side and actually avoid things like shots, opting instead to use homeopathic medicine. I guess it would depend on how strictly one adhere's to one's vegan-ness.
My mother also can not get the flue shot. She was once tested for allergies, and one of her MANY allergies was eggs. Of course, she eats eggs. I suppose that injecting it directly into your body would probably have a greater chance of a reaction.

----insert pause here-----

Just for the heck of it, I did a google search. Apparently, the general opinion is that hardcore vegans do NOT get flu shots.

But I can get a flu shot - I figured if I'm allowed to get a flu shot (because I'm told it's not a "live" virus), that anyone can get a flu shot. Shows what I know. I don't think vegans take much medicine. Except for maybe some weed.

I saw the newest 1980 show on Sunday and I think I've actually seen the bodyguard movie on cable before. And yes, that dude was in your poopy movie. He's been in other things as well, but I was suprized that he still looks pretty much the same after 25 years. It's a little freaky actually. But what the hell is 3-D about this newest 80's series?
