so when we went to see Serenity friday, there were four guys ahead of us in line that were clearly superfans. three of them were in costume as Mal, Simon, and Jayne. the fourth had a t-shirt that had "Joss Whedon is my master now" in a Star Wars-esque kind of font.

Do you remember when I told you that I thought you and my friend L (aka Chazari) might get along well? Could Serenity be a common thread? See, I never heard of it before she mentioned it ("mentioned" is such an understatement!). Unless, of course you didn't like the movie?! Anyway, she might be classified as a superfan, since she does knit Jayne hats, and very much worships Joss Whedon. So maybe she is too extreme for you??

I wish I had known you saw Serenity, I would have asked for a review before going to see it yesterday. I tried to ignore how badly it was trying to be the next Star Wars.

but i would have recommended it. i may be a little biased, though, because i've seen the series. i'm still a little miffed about what they did to my favorite character, though...

Aha - since that last post I have done a little Internet search and now realize there is a cult-like following for this man and these characters. Now things make a little more sense, since I did not know about the series or that the Whedon fella is responsible for Buffy and Angel (not things I watched). But I'm still disappointed about the Star Wars-ness of the story and how the dialogue with the main characters at the start of the movie seemed so stiff. It did get better as the movie went on, and I didn't see that pole through the chest thing coming - I'm used to hearing a whole theatre laugh at the same time but a united gasp of horror is a different story. Epecially since I was reciting along "I am a leaf on the wind..."

i purposely didn't mention that, but unless sheila hasn't seen it yet and happens to check this, you should be okay. she's the one who owns the DVDs that i've seen of the show. i know nick already saw it and i'm not sure anyone else who reads this will care.

but i'm downright angry about that, i must say, because he's my favorite character. i was in shocked awe for about five minutes waiting for them to revive him somehow, but it never happened.
