so after a day of a very long training and then trying to chase my brother down unsuccessfully to take pictures of him before his final homecoming (he just doesn't understand that he's my baby and it's a big deal to me that he's got a real date - i want pictures damn it!), neither john nor i were particularly feeling the idea of driving up to niagara falls to go see the Tea Party.

we timed it right so as to avoid boring opening band stuff, wandered up to the balcony of the Dome Theater (which was surprisingly cool and huge), and perched ourselves on the stairs with a good view. the stairs, by the way, added extra entertainment while waiting for the show to begin because the bottom step was tricky and about 8 people tripped, with four being major wipeouts. the best one was the first woman who fell to her knees, but still managed to save her three beers. it was very impressive. the people watching was also spectacular. i was totally distracted by this girl who just looked way too trendy to be at this kind of show. she was wearing over-the-knee leg warmers with tassels on top, for crying out loud. completely bizarre.

anyway. we only had to wait about 15 to 20 minutes before the Tea Party got going and i instantly was very, very happy we were there. i love this band. they are amazing live. and with such a huge catalog, they really successfully mix up the old and new songs to my satisfaction. just awesome. i'm not entirely sure john enjoyed it quite as much, judging by the amount of yawns he had going on, but he was very tired to begin with.

because of the size of the place and since we didn't wander around at all, i didn't really run into tonawandans as i expected i would. i did run into my friend amanda's friend amanda in the bathroom. there was this once that the three of us were out together back in the day and some guys came up to us, introducing themselves. one of the two of the girls responded with, "Hi, we're Amanda." they looked confused. we thought it was funny.

but i digress.

in summary, fantastic show. still my favorite band to see live. and nick, i would like to officially change the musician i'd like to hump for a day to Jeff Martin of the Tea Party. or perhaps the uber-talented drummer (although my luck with drummers is not so good).
