the absolute best wedding ever was, of course, mine. and i'm not just saying that because it was mine. it was a fun time.

anyway. about kelly and james. kelly was born to be a bride, i swear. she's so considerate and crafty and has all these personal touches that she does all on her own. made me feel like i was a less classy bride, but that's me, i guess. for example, we got to the hotel and there was a bag waiting for us there with snacks, a nicely printed list of eateries and activities in the area, and, for just me and john, a mix cd of songs for and inspired by the wedding of kelly and james. the last song, by the way, is "Laid" by James, which we felt was a nice touch.

somehow we wound up being the only friend of the couple staying at the hotel in mount morris rather than in letchworth state park itself. but the hotel was right at the park entrance so that's close enough, right? it's a big park. the glen iris inn was 16 miles from our entrance. thank god we left early for the rehearsal.

during the rehearsal dinner, kelly gave all of us involved little gifts. considering she was one of my bridesmaids and we got married on her birthday, i'm shamed by how awesome her gift was in comparison when all i was doing was a reading. it was a very pretty pewter box and in it was a lovely silver necklace with an "A" on the chain. quite nice. wore it all weekend.

after rehearsal, we met up with their respective sorority and fraternity siblings for beer in geneseo. they were doing zucchini bowling in the vital. odd. we were pleased to see they had beer from burlington there. had too much of it and then moved on to the idle for more beer.

the wedding day was nice and sunny without any icky humidity. although it was damn hot during the ceremony with the sun beating down. but it was a great service. sucked down three seabreezes before dinner. not a good plan. then champagne and merlot during dinner. stuck with water for a bit after that and then back to another seabreeze later. sat with james' friends from boston, who were a ton of fun.

john got to get some latin and swing dancing in, which always makes him happy. they had a good d.j. who respected that if they wanted the sugarcubes played, then the sugarcubes would be played, even if all of five of us were familiar with the song.

after party at the stone house up the road with, yes, beer. we got stopped by park police on our way out at about 2, wanting to know why we were driving through the park so late, but could tell from our wardrobe that we had been at the wedding and moved on.

had some grub in geneseo on our way home and stopped into Buzzo's to get a new sticker for my car. john got to meet Buzzo himself, who is looking rather unwell, even for a scaggly dead head type.

going to geneseo and hanging with members of geneseo greek organizations is always a little weird for me. and i especially have a thing about kelly's sorority (from before she was in it) because of some sean baggage so i'm always self-conscious around her sisters. but it was cool. and being in the town itself just felt a little bittersweet. kind of like being in rome, ny for jackie's wedding last year. baggage, baggage, baggage.

i'd like to throw in a little commercial endorsement to finish. we stayed at the Country Inn and Suites by Carlson. highly recommend. huge suite room. i mean separate living room altogether with pull-out couch, chairs, tv, microwave, fridge, kitchen sink, table. nice bedroom with king size bed and tv. standard hotel bathroom, but they gave us pantene. free cookies at the front desk. continental breakfast that goes above and beyond continental breakfasts (waffles even!). this is opposed to the place in Montana (the Outlaw Motel) that charged $2.50 for crappy continental breakfast. as if.

also, if in the market for good sunscreens that are waterproof, but don't make you feel sticky and goopy all day, check out Hawaiian Tropic Sheer. i didn't feel it all day. and the icky coconut smell goes away quickly, too.

You betcha. I have an array of waterproof oil-free Coppertone. Spf 15 for daily use, 30 for outdoor events, and the big bad 50 for swimming or other beachy activities. I used the 50 every day in Cancun in tropical heat - no sunburn and no zits. You almost need to be pressure-washed to get that stuff off.

I disagree. Maybe it just sticks to your skin better than spf 30 or something, because when the serious sun challenges happen (say... hiking 4 miles in the desert in July in the afternoon) I can really feel and see the difference in the areas of 50 and spots where I thought only 30 would cut it.

I'm telling you, I only use the Coppertone oil-free. But I am very light with it because I don't care what the labels say, anything on your face is going to be greasy. At least, it is on my face which is greasy to begin with. I have a free sample of this Clinque Superdefense stuff with SPF 25 and it's horribly greasy.
