in case you needed another reason to be annoyed with Lucas, we just discovered something new.
john and i bought the original Star Wars movies on DVD when they came out this past year. sadly, we haven't really watched them since purchasing them in september. our neighbor steve borrowed them over the weekend, though, and he just returned them with the news that Lucas changed yet another thing on the originals.
remember at the end of Return of the Jedi when Luke looks over and sees the ghostly figures of Yoda, Obi Wan, and also his father in his normal human form? remember how Annakin was the older man that you see when Luke takes off his mask? well, not on the DVD.
now on the DVD you actually see Yoda, Obi Wan (as in Alec Guinness), and also Annakin played by Haydn Christian (or whatever that dude's name is that plays him in the current movies - can't remember exactly). what is the point of that? why would Annakin be his young self while Obi Wan is still his old self? and why would Lucas bother changing that when Annakin was the older man you just saw five minutes earlier in the movie when Vader was unmasked?
gah!
i still hate the "new" added scenes he put into the originals when he rereleased them in the 90s. they're just pointless and stupid. so i'm quite glad i still have the original originals on tape. i hope Lucas gets some brain cells back someday and releases that version on DVD some day. i will gladly buy those and hand over the current DVDs to my brother who thinks there's no difference.

Date: 2005-05-31 01:44 pm (UTC)From:I don't remember if Andy bought the "New" DVDs - he's a sucker and probably did. I still have the old tapes and I'm not getting rid of them. Who the hell needs to see Jabba walking around, anyway? Lucas, don't make the rest of us pay for your poor planning. It's not our fault you decided you didn't have enough money and had to make three new stinkers fit with the classics.

someone needs to learn to tell that boy "no"
I would, but I really really really want a three picture deal
