i should have known it would have been too easy to have becky actually be a reference for me. she wasn't physically in the building when i got in today so i dropped her an e-mail asking if she was still willing to be a reference for me. i mean, if she said so, then why wouldn't she talk to CATS on the phone? how is that different from writing me a reference letter? however, she responded by explaining that it is policy, but she was working on a letter for me. so i politely responded with a thank you and didn't push the issue too hard. so now it's after normal business hours for the likes of her and i just got a chance to check my e-mail again. she included an attachment with the letter she wrote, which talks way more about our prevention program than anything i really did and also has a completely wrong start date for me. and she mentions in her e-mail that she will be out of town until the 23rd and will sign a copy for me when she gets back. on the 23rd. which is over a week from now. what the fuck?

yes, too long. so i figure i can offer to forward her the e-mail with the attachment so she can see that it really did come from becky. or talk to jackie and chris as people who can and will attest to my good work. or if she really wants to, she can wait until becky gets back. guess i'll let her decide which she would prefer. but i certainly feel like a jackass about the whole thing. i couldn't make this up if i tried.

What a cluster-fuck. Since she sent you the letter on the computer, why not correct the start date and add a few lines about your wonderfullness? I mean, really - I'm not asking you to add a fictional degree to your resume or anything, just correct a crappy letter.

it's not that it's a crappy letter. it just talks about how wonderful this program is and then throws in that i helped her put it together, but she does say she'd recommend me highly. so it's not bad. in the end, i just forwarded CATS the e-mail with the attachment and let her know the date was wrong. no biggie.
