he's being a complete ass, but mom is not making the situation any better. and i'm quite sick of being the one called in to fix it after it all goes to hell. especially when no one wants to take my opinion into account. i do actually do this kind of stuff for a living so i might know something of worth. actually, all three of them need to make some changes. and i need to try to keep myself from being stuck in the middle with no way out.
the kid is almost 18. he's going to make stupid decisions and he's going to have to deal with the consequences of those stupid decisions. we can't make him want our help until he wants it for himself. it sucks to watch him crash and burn like he is, but until he gets that major reality check, there will be no getting through to him. so we need to let him fail school, lose his job for not cutting his hair, lose his car insurance for not paying his bills, etc. he wants to be a grown up so those are the grown up consequences. then maybe he'll wake up and truly grow up.
but i've said more than i meant to here. as you can tell, i'm rather heated about the whole thing.
Do you have legal knowledge about stuff like how long they (legally) have to house and provide for him? My guess is it's 18 but if it's earlier that would be a start. I also told her the things you are saying. I mean, for cryin' out loud, the kid's hair length is the least of anyone's problem!
i believe if he gets into any real major trouble they may actually be partially responsible for him until he turns 21, but we're talking real major trouble and someone wants to hold someone responsible other than him for some reason.
other than that, he's free to do what he wants in less than two months.
