Cycle of abuse

evil boss offered me a position with a huge pay hike. theories abound that she knows i'm looking elsewhere. she's also been freakishly nice to me since sheila quit. it's creepy. when she's nice like this it's very easy to like the offer. i mean, really like it. but jackie's husband pointed out that the devil makes a real tempting offer before he takes your soul. hmmm. then jackie herself showed me how working for evil boss is like the cycle of domestic violence. there's that honeymoon phase where we really get along and it seems all wonderful. but once she gets what she wants out of me, she starts getting back into that bitch mode and treats me like crap whenever she gets into a bad mood binge. if i can avoid discussing this with her, i have vacation next week, and i hope to god i get an offer from at least one of my two current options somewhere along the line.

Since you're already there, why not take the pay hike and keep looking for other jobs anyway. That way you can get out quick when the cycle turns back to ugly.

well, that's pretty much going to be the plan if my other current options don't pan out. i hate to start something only to bail out, though.

i know, i know. but if nothing else comes up, i guess a pay raise until i do find something isn't such a horrible option.
