I'm not sure if I mentioned before that a couple from our classes had a placement with someone due at the end of this month. Turns out that a week or so ago, she changed her mind, which is terribly sad for them. But still better than having her change her mind after they had the baby home with them. One of them is a pediatrician on the maternity ward in the hospital where this baby is likely to be born...
Another couple announced on Facebook today that they have been picked by someone in Indiana due at the end of June. My neurotic brain, of course, goes instantly to wondering what were the circumstances that caused us to not get profiled. Not really a good way to think, I must admit.

To answer your question from below, in NY, they have 30 days after placement to change their minds. Not sure about other states.

The birth parents have to have been involved along the way (or the birth father has to show that he was excluded). They also have to show that he/she/they want to raise the child and not a grandparent, etc...
