I have to say, the prospect of all that needs to be done to prepare for another kid is a bit overwhelming. Primarily for two reasons.
One, we are not just preparing for another kid, but having to go through quite a lengthy process to do so. There's three different kinds of background checks, five weeks of classes, a stack of financial paperwork, research on what medical conditions we're okay with, medical forms that doctors need to fill out on all three of us, those stupid TB tests to schedule getting and getting checked, a mini-autobiography for both of us to write individually, a letter to write to a prospective birth parent, and a major profile of us to put together for birth parents to look at. Throw on getting the small list of stuff that we do need to get for a second kid, putting together the room, getting everything we already have out of storage and washing it all, and trying to mentally prepare Nora for such a major change to her life. Whew!
Second, I have less time to do it in than I would if I was pregnant. Then I'd have 9 months. I probably have just under 5 months at this point because the reality is that they will be chomping at the bit to profile us for transracial situations due to the need for families willing to do that. So I need to be ready. We said we won't take a placement before May 21st, so I imagine we'll have a baby shortly after that. And I'm not realizing what the date is already and that it's more like just over 4 months. Yikes.
