Months ago we bought seats that fit on the toilet for Nora, just in case she got the urge to use it.  We got them out after our trip in April and she liked to occasionally sit on it with her clothes on or maybe just her diaper.  A couple weeks ago, I convinced her that she should sit on it without her diaper by telling her she couldn't flush unless she did so.  Surprisingly, this worked.  She'd sit on it for about two seconds and then hop off.  So last week we started reading to her when she'd sit.  And she'd sit and listen for a long time, but nothing would happen.  Last night, though, she did actually pee while sitting there and I got very excited, which seemed to genuinely surprise Nora, but she got all into the excitement.  Beezley came in to see what the fuss was and she informed him that she peed on the potty.

Not that this means more than that I finally had her sitting there at the right time.  She isn't at the point yet where she knows ahead of time that she has to go and can have the insight to tell us that she needs to be on the toilet.  But it was still very exciting.

In other Nora news, she's becoming a rather polite child.  She says "bless you" when someone sneezes, and even when they cough.  She sometimes says "please" when asking for something.  She says "excuse me" when she burps and sometimes even when she'd like you to move out of the way.  And she even said "sorry" to John after bonking him in the face while they were playing catch.  Some of this is my doing, like the sneeze blessing, but I think she must have also picked it up at daycare.  We still need to work on "thank you," I think.

I was pretty sure Sam would pick up sneeze blessing pretty quickly too, since I do it habitually even when people cough or burp or whatever; and he DID. Except listening carefully to what he actually SAYS, I think he thinks "bless you" is actually an imitation of a sneeze!

Hmmm... my kids just laugh hysterically when they make body noises like burping. Kid humor is rampant in my house, these days.

Yay for peeing on the potty, it is the first step. Knowing where the pee actually goes is as important as knowing when you have to go. :)
