The nap in the toddler bed went fine this afternoon.  When I could hear on the monitor that she was awake, I waited a few minutes before getting her to see if she'd stay in the bed.  I thought it sounded like she was just playing in the bed, but it turns out that she did climb out to play.  But she was quiet and keeping out of trouble so I didn't mind too much.

Well, I put her to bed at 8:30 and within about 15 minutes, we heard a thud.  I ran up there and she had fallen out of the bed.  It's low so she wasn't hurt or anything, but she was totally disoriented and we had to have a little cuddle until she got her bearings and fell back to sleep. 

So we will apparently be needing to buy a new crib, after all.  Swell.

... do they still make bed rails?

It actually has rails, but they barely hold anything in. There's this giant gaping hole that she obviously falls out of. But I was thinking of those rails you can get separately, too, so we just picked one up at Target and that should probably do the job.

Too bad you are not closer. We have a small - very low to the ground - with side rails toddler bed that we are looking to get give away. It would be perfect for Nora. Both my kids used it, and neither fell out. We had originally planned to convert the crib into a toddler bed, but we had to keep pillows all around it because it was higher and Jacob fell out of it.

We just picked up one of those rails to use on a big bed and we'll see if that will work with this. Honestly, if that recall had just been a couple months later, I'd probably just pick up your bed at Christmas when we're up there. What a pain this has been.
