So late Mardi Gras night, I started getting sick. Just a suspiciously sore throat that I wrote off due to tiredness and bad weather. However, the next morning, I was so wiped out that I had to do something I never do (though I should more often), that being napping when Nora napped in the morning. I woke up feeling just as wiped out.
The next day I took another morning nap after dropping Nora off at daycare. I was not only tired, but super achy, to the point that even my hair seemed to hurt. But I had to go to class anyway and was happy to get out early that night.
Friday I thought I might be feeling a little better so I didn't take the morning nap with Nora, and strongly regretted it as I had a hard time staying awake with Nora after lunch and was so happy for her afternoon nap to arrive.
All this time, I had been doing the whole gargling with salt water thing to ward off my usual throat infection. No such luck. The swelling was getting pretty icky. Plus, for an added bonus, my eyes were starting to drain on Friday. Therefore, I decided Saturday that I needed to go to the doctor's. Luckily, the place I recently switched to has Saturday morning appointments, and also their own after hour urgent care the rest of the weekend.
I got a morning appointment, which meant no morning nap for me so as I waited in the waiting room and then the doctor's office, I seriously thought I was going to just pass out right there. I probably should have. They attempted to do a throat culture, but my gag reflex was on high alert, apparently, so that didn't work too well. I know it wouldn't have showed up as strep anyway because I always get these non-strep infections that no one ever knows what to do with.
In the end, the doctor decided it didn't look like strep, but it did look bad enough that I "deserved" some antibiotics. Also, I got some eye drops for what was apparently turning into pink eye. These antibiotics were mixed with something else that may cause stomach upset. I, of course, have occasionally suffered from this lovely side effect. I'm loading up on acidophilus to ward this off, as well as some of the other unpleasant antibiotic side effects that women are prone to. And did I mention that I totally suck at eye drops?
I pretty much wound up sleeping the rest of the weekend, leaving John to deal with Nora and the multiple dogs we were watching for my parents. But by Monday I was finally feeling a little better and not quite so exhausted. Except I had the most horrible cough I think I have ever had in my life.
Now it is Wednesday, the cough did not incapacitate me today, the throat is okay, the eyes are looking good, and I'm not anymore tired than I usually am.
And Nora threw up a couple times this morning, including once where she hilariously (in my sick opinion) hurled right on the dog's head.
If I catch that, I will be so pissed.
