So you might recall that I'm technically working for an adoption agency, doing home studies as a contract social worker.  Except I haven't done any home studies yet because of the fingerprinting issue.  Two different people at the agency have done my fingerprints and both sets were rejected because the FBI has an extremely high rejection rate and I have tiny fingers that smudge easily.  This has been going on since sometime in June, by the way, because the FBI also has very slow processing time.

I feel bad for prospective adoptive parents, by the way, who generally have to wait long enough as it is without having to deal with this kind of garbage making their wait to be parents even longer.  But I digress.

The agency mailed me some print cards and recommended that I go to the local police and have them do it.  I called there yesterday to see if I'd have to make an appointment or whatever.  I do, indeed, have to make an appointment.  They only do it on certain days of the week between 9 and 11 in the morning.  You can't make an appointment before that day.  To make an appointment, you have to call between 7:15 and 7:30 in the morning on the day that you would like your appointment and take whatever one they give you.  It's $10 per card and they only take check or money order and you must be an Amherst resident.

Well, okay.  Today was one of their days of the week that they do it and since it's a daycare day, I thought this would be a good day.  I got up a little early to make sure I was out of the shower in time to call and in case I got a 9:00 appointment and needed to get Nora to daycare a smidge earlier than usual in order for me to make it.  I don't like waking up as it is so this was a big deal for me.

I called at 7:16 and was told they were not going to be doing fingerprinting today because they had too many prisoners.  Really?  In Amherst?  Um, all right.

So still no fingerprints AND I got up early this morning for nothing.  Now I have to wait until next week because I'd rather not be dragging Nora out during prime nap time to get this crap done.

See if you can find a number for the FBI building downtown. It's easy to get to and they can't reject something that come from one of their offices riiiiiight? Well I'm being hopeful. I'd smile nicely and tell them that you haven't been able to get an appointment with your Local Police Dept and tell them that they are a last resort type thing. Sometimes smiling for Civil Servants helps.

Well I can't say I blame you for that. Only good news would be it's super easy to get to from the 190!

I wish you weren't so far. John would do it for you ANYTIME, for free. I can't believe that they charge for it.

What the hell? How long does it take to fingerprint someone and what are they doing with the prisoners that they can't spend five minutes inking you? And how many people come by on a regular basis asking to be fingerprinted anyway that they would need to make appointments? I don't think you have a real police department.
