Nora usually has a bath every other day because, well, it's not like she's doing much to get dirty other than spitting up and we clean her face and hands off regardless.  Today was not a bath day, but she got an impromptu bath anyway.  This has only happened once before when she was baptised because the deacon put an obscene amount of oil in her hair.  It took multiple shampoos to get out.  But I digress.

What happened today was the mother of all poop explosions.  It went up the back of her diaper and very much up her onesie.  Getting a onesie off a baby can be a tricky task in the best of times.  Then try getting a poop-covered onesie off a baby.  A squirming baby, at that.  What transpired was poop all over her back and even a little bit in the poor girl's hair.  Yup, a bath was directly in order.  By the way, once I got the poop off her bum, she couldn't have cared less about where else it might be.  She was just laughing it up the rest of the time.

Incidentally, given that she doesn't sit up on her own yet and that wet babies are slippery, John and I have always given her a bath together just to be safe.  He wasn't home from work yet when this particular bath needed to occur so I was on my own.  Not as easy as when it's two of us, but I didn't have any problems.

I SO feel for you! My kids used to have poop explosions ALL the time. Once, I was at a friends house, and Jacob pooped all over himself, me, AND the floor. and I had to walk home, with him in a front carrier, with both of us covered in poop. Actually, times like that are a big part of the reason that I switched to cloth. We had explosions all the time with disposable, but in all the time we used cloth, we only had that happen once. They just held everything in better, and since my kids had such skinny legs, I think that disposable diapers just didn't fill in the gaps well.

It is scary to give a baby a bath, don't you think? John gave Jacob all of his baths from the first one in the hospital until jacob didn't need baths anymore! Giving a baby a bath was probably the only thing that really, really, scared me as a new mom!

..."poop explosions" can happen to anybody, so give the kid a break!

...better that she learns at a young age that "poop happens!"

...so what you mean is that for a while she was in a "world of poop?"

Dan and I always do Zack's bath as a team - he is soooo squirmy!

We saw Nora yesterday when we picked up Zack. She was being a good little girl - it doesn't sound like she cries nearly as much anymore. I also noticed her tiny little feet - so cute! I can't resist going around to all the little ones and giving their cheeks a pinch or their feet a tickle!
