#1 We went to see Sky Captain last night (please no commentary on this choice). It was, as one might suspect, an awesomely bad movie. It was a total throwback to the 30s, right down to the bad overacting and melodrama. You'd think that would be an abomination enough in its own right. But it gets worse. The main villain is not actually seen in person - only in pictures and video. John and I both observed that he bore a striking resemblance to Laurence Olivier (a ridiculous crush of mine thanks to my favorite past roommate, Kelly, who once made me watch "Wuthering Heights" when I was rather anti-old movie). So the credits roll, and would you believe it really was Laurence Olivier?!?!?!?!? Whoever owns the rights to that man's likeness is an evil, evil, evil person and Sir Laurence is likely rolling over in his grave. And whose job was it to find video footage from old movies that would be applicable to this movie? Oy vey.

#2 Grocery shopping on a Saturday night. We had a very full cart. We pull into a nearly empty lane at 9:35. Now I know we had a lot of stuff, but we had the slowest cashier I have ever had the displeasure of encountering. She spent a full 15 minutes scanning everything and loading heavy things on top of smushable things. Then I gave her the coupons. Again, I will admit I had a lot of coupons ($30 worth when all was said and done), but she took TEN WHOLE MINUTES to scan my coupons. There were three that required her to put in the actual amount of the product. After I watched her fumble over the first one, it seemed pretty clear the key sequence involved. Yet she continued to make the same mistake. We got out of there at 10:00. 25 minutes to cash out. And please don't think I don't know how crappy a job that is. Cashing is not fun. I've worked just about all of the standard crappy jobs out there in my day and I also get that sometimes people have a bad day. Believe me, this was not the case. This was just flaming incompetence.
