Let me get the bad stuff out of the way first.  Lucky, the dog my mom had gotten from the SPCA that was staying with us for a few days while he got over his kennel cough, was not so lucky.  He was starting to show some aggressive tendencies, but he was otherwise just the most unbelievably sweet and good dog.  We all loved him.  However, he scared the crap out of Mom's cat.  As Lucky was super trainable, Mom was hoping she could teach him to leave Sharon alone.  But then he started getting aggressive towards other dogs.  He nipped a little at Beeze when he was here, but only once did I think he was doing anything other than just playing, and that was because Beezley was eating biscuit crumbs out of Lucky's crate so he was getting territorial.  Not great, but not unjustified in the dog world.  But he got nippy with the dog next door to Mom's, again probably playfully, but we're not used to dogs that do that.  The real problem came Saturday when Mom took Lucky for a walk and they ran into another neighbor with her very friendly dog.  Lucky got very aggressive and then bit the dog hard enough to have put a hole in her face.  She immediately called me to talk about it and I agreed that he would have to go back to the SPCA.  She called Dad and he took Lucky back.  The plan was to let them know that he would be fantastic in a home with no other pets and probably not overly smallish children, but the SPCA's policy is that any dog that bites another dog like that is put down.  I can't say that I don't understand this policy because I absolutely do, but it's heartbreaking because he really was an awesome dog otherwise and I don't believe he necessarily deserved this fate.  Incidentally, my mom forgot to tell me this part and I found out in a very off-handed way when I was over there yesterday.  John and I have both been rather distressed over this.

I did believe that Mom would officially not even consider another dog at this point because they've had so many close calls with dogs the past few months.  But my dad mentioned that there were a couple of bassett hounds there, which is a breed they've expressed an interest in.  So I had to look up stuff about their temperament and then they went to check those dogs out.  They wound up bringing home Willie.  They are only fostering him, with the option to adopt.  The people there were very helpful in understanding their situation and let them have the dogs get near a cat that was used to being in a home with dogs.  Willie really is a good dog, but he hasn't been neutered yet and not only is he rather amorous, he has the most humongous balls I have ever seen on a dog.  Bassett hounds have little stubby legs and this fella's balls just literally drag on the ground.  He's being fixed on Wednesday.  I will be relieved because just looking at him made me uncomfortable.  He seems to be a keeper, by the way, though Mom's concern with him is that he doesn't seem to eat much.  He's also getting dental work on Wednesday so hopefully that will help with that.

In other news, the garage sale went well.  We sold more comics than we've ever sold before, and not just because Kristy's husband bought a ton first thing Friday morning.  We sold a ton all weekend.  We got rid of the most unbelievable amount of crap the first day, but I was a little disheartened at the big stuff that was left, as my ultimate goal is to not have to deal with this shit anymore, but Saturday when someone bought the Total Gym 2000, I knew we off to a great start.  And we did indeed get rid of the vast majority of our stuff.  We made just over $250.  Mom only raked in about $17, proving to me that it wasn't just bad location or whatever that caused our garage sales to suck when we were kids.  They just didn't have anything good to sell.

Other than that, we are still dealing with teething.  Yesterday was a very bad day with it.  It's cutting into her napping and when she doesn't nap well not only is she cranky, but it interferes with her eating, too.  Please cut soon, teeth!

Oh, and my fingerprints got sent back for the adoption agency.  This is pretty common.  They reject fingerprints for lots of people all the time because they're very stringent.  I've also had this problem before because my fingers are so small that the pinkies get smudged really easily.  Had them redone today, but they can take several weeks to come back and I can't start doing any home studies until they come back approved.  Awesome.

I think I'm looking forward to my classes starting so I can feel like I'm doing something with myself.

That's too bad about your parent's dog. The shelter by us is a no-kill shelter. I always wondered what they do with dogs that bite. I guess they must just hold out for the right owner... I don't know. I did hear a rumor that no-kill shelters ship dogs like that off to shelters that do kill, but I also heard from a reliable source that our shelter doesn't ship them off.

Hope Nora is doing better with the teething. Can you feel the teeth under the gums yet?

When do classes start?
