Let me just state for the record that teething sucks.

Now that I have that out of the way, we got the car seats this weekend.  Since my folks were over visiting their dog and watching Nora so I could have my eye exam and pick out new glasses, we figured we'd also make a quick run to Babies R Us before my coupons expired.  So we could use both coupons, I took one car seat through one line and John took the other through another line.  Hey, these things cost $220 each so I'm saving every penny I can.

Today John wrangled them into the cars.  No really, it's like wild horse wrangling with these things getting the angles right and whatnot.  Oh, and there is going to be no easy way to get Nora in and out of the seat in John's car because of those weird doors the Element has, but at least I can practically stand up in his car so I can actually stand over the seat while I strap her in, etc.

We tried her out in each of them to make sure the straps were at the right length and so on and she actually seemed to like them.  She even smiled at me.  I don't blame her.  These Britax mofos are super soft and cushy.  Much cushier than the Graco infant car seat, which she has hated all along.  I guess I'm paying a little for the luxury as well as the safety.

Since we're retiring the infant car seat, we plan to use carriers to tote her around a lot more, and we struck garage sale gold in finding two rather cheap Baby Bjorns.  Now, these are certainly nice baby carriers.  They're comfortable and fairly easy to get her in and out of, but I do not think they are worth the $80 they charge for these things.  There's no way they need to be more than twice the cost of others that are pretty much the same thing.  Meh, whatever.  I am the garage sale queen.

I can't remember if I wrote you about this already or not (I have some serious swiss cheese memory, lately), but John likes to tell people that he always thought that "teething" was a brief, one time process. He quickly learned with Jacob that teething starts way before they the first comes in, and then repeats with each new tooth. Some kids don't seem to have much of a "teething" issue, but mine were awful. Especially Jacob. We would have him sleeping great, and we'd think, "man, we got this down good!", when all of sudden he would be waking up screaming at night. After the first few teeth, we knew exactly what was going on, and at least knew that it would pass when the tooth popped through.

I used to give tylenol (or motrin, but I think they need to be six months for that). It might have helped... or maybe it just made me feel less useless.

They kind of had a general crankiness all day long while teething (meaning with Grace, her normal crankiness turned to extremely irritating crankiness), but I don't recall it affecting their eating much. My babies were insatiably hungry. ALL the time.

Tylenol --- the problem is that too much can cause liver damage (there is actually a daily mg limit that should not be exceeded). If you are giving it to her every X number of hours for days on end, that might not be so good. If you are doing it once or twice a day, I don't think it's a problem. You can always ask the doctor what s/he thinks. Have you tried anything for the teething? The gel and the teething tablets never helped us, but I know some people that swear by them.
