Car dealers suck

okay. now i know that john's car is not in the best mechanical shape it could be. that's why we're looking for a new car, but all it needs is a new head gasket. we got its trade-in value appraised by one of the dealerships today and before they even looked at it, they tried to give us a value of only $2000, which is completely insulting when the Kelley Blue Book value for his car in good condition is $6,000 and $5,000 for fair condition, and like i said, i'm willing to admit it's the latter. after looking at it, they then tell us we'd be better off just donating it to charity because the engine runs a bit rough and no one wants that in a car that's got more than 100,000 miles. again, i understand it's a well-used car, but i know it's not worthless. first of all, i know what the engine problem is and i docked myself the price of its repair when figuring what i would be willing to take ($4,000). but it is a subaru which retains its value very well, there aren't really any other mechanical problems, the body is pristine, and it's got awesome winter accessories like heated leather seats, heated mirrors, and heated wipers. we're rather decided on the Honda Element, but this isn't the only Honda dealer in western new york and i'm willing to try at least one more for a better appraisal. i refuse to believe that this car is completely worth nothing.
