i was very tired this morning when i had to get up early to go to a high school in the southern most tip of Buffalo for a meeting with one of my more difficult kids and the assistant principal that she hates to discuss her most recent suspension since her mom has no desire to attend these meetings anymore. what a way to start a monday. the assistant principal didn't seem to have any love for her, either. this meeting was like banging my head into a wall.
the good part of all this was that i got to leave work early, which turned out to be a great thing since they still have not yet figured out why john's car is continuing to overheat when it goes above 45 mph. grrr. so with this nice relaxing evening, we went and test drove the Honda CR-V and the Toyota Rav4 (neither of which are names that i find even remotely cool at all, but i guess they can't all be the Matrix). they are comparable in price, gas mileage, and future trade-in value. now we weren't able to get an estimate on john's trade-in so that may be a deciding factor here, but the Honda was almost perfect except for one glaring thing. john is a behemoth of a man and the Honda had cramped leg room for him. i mean, it's way bigger overall than the Toyota, has more features, and just seems like a better deal all around. he says he wants to try out the Honda one more time to see if it's really cramped beyond getting used to. also, we had to try out a higher end model until they get the lower end ones in this weekend and that may add a little difference because it won't have the moonroof cutting into his space issues.
i like car shopping, generally, because i like to play the game. working at a boat dealership during grad school taught me a lot and i worked it good to get my car two years ago. but right now i'm too tired and we're both too busy to play the game. we just need to get him in a car that works.
it used to be so much easier to car shop before i married the jolly green giant. all i wanted was all wheel drive, ABS, air, and a good stereo. john is so much pickier and he doesn't fit into anything smaller.
the moral of the story is that i'm just not having fun with the car stuff this time around.

Date: 2004-11-30 08:38 am (UTC)From:honda is also pretty no nonsense. having purchased a toyota before, i know how slimey they can be, so if john wants the Rav, we're going to have to play the game. i don't think we'll have to with the CR-V. i'm a fan of the Saturn Vue, but it's not really what john wants, and since it's his car, what can i do?
i checked the size difference between the CR-V and the Rav. the Rav has only one more inch of leg room. so we'll drive some again this weekend and see where he stands.
