Seminar Etiquette

When did it become okay and not completely fucking impolite to sit in a seminar (and a good one, at that) while knitting? There were about 16 of us and 2 women were doing it. What is wrong with this world?

middle-aged, but that's besides the point. i mean, i know people my age that knit, but not during a seminar. it just seems so rude to me. and sadly, it's not the first time i've seen it.
