Having to keep on buying things to clothes this ever expanding body has been a real sore spot for me throughout this pregnancy, and the one body part I hadn't had to do that for yet was the foot. They have expanded and I was making due with some slip-on shoes for a while. Then it cold and snowy and I still had some boots I could wear since I tend to like those a little bigger for easier use of thick socks.
However, I had to admit this week that my last remaining pair of footwear was just not working for me comfortably anymore. Furthermore, the velcro on the left foot is barely hanging on at this point. There's no way they'll make it two more months.
So the cheap, but comfortable and useful, shoe hunt was on. No easy task. Especially since I still need something appropriate for the winter months and everyone already has spring and summer shoes out.
We tried Target first since we were going there anyway, but the best I could do was a pair of men's shoes which were $35. Too much for shoes I won't use after this. There was of course not a single pair of boots anywhere to be found or appropriate shoes in the right size. The best the women's section could have done for me was ballet flats. Like that would work in the snow.
But Wal-Mart came through for me. And I hate shopping at Wal-Mart. We were there at 9:30 on a Friday night and it was still too crowded for my tastes. But they always do seem to have something to fulfill my shoe needs when I'm really desparate like this. Their women's boots still existed, but generally not in the sizes I'm currently needing. They actually had many pairs of appropriate shoes in great comfort levels, especially the Dr. Scholl's or Earth Shoes (or whatever they're called), but they were still a little more pricey than what I wanted to spend for what will probably be temporary shoes.
I had settled on fairly cheap pairs of black and brown shoes, but we mosied into the men's section and found some nice looking ankle boots that were pretty comfortable AND were on clearance. Furthermore, I could potentially still use them next year with thick socks, particularly since I don't know if my feet will go back to their old size anyway. So I grabbed a pair in black and brown and feel so relieved. As do my feet.
