I survived the test. I had to go to Quest labs, which is not really known for their customer service in these parts, but I actually had good service from the one I went to. The girl who did my blood draws was very nice and agreeable to taking the blood out of my hands as I know that will be easier. She made a joke about old school phlebotomists who like to do everything their way. She did a good job, too. She alternated hands and it did seem that the right worked better than the left hand, for whatever reason. The last draw was going to be from my left hand, but she had an extremely tough time on that one, probably thanks in part to the massive dehydration of having fasted for 14 hours by then. So I may have some brusing on that one, but she did a great job otherwise.
I brought a book to read while I was there and watched some CNN to keep myself occupied during my fabulous three hours. There was another pregnant woman there taking the same test who eventually started chatting with me, telling me a lot more about her fibroid that's the size of her baby's head than I really wanted to know, but it did pass the time. It only got annoying when I was trying to leave and she kept talking to me. I just wanted to go get some food, damn it!
But that trial is now done and I'm on a mission to take it easy now that the furnace appears to be working and John is still home sick. My goal is to be a useless slug for the rest of today.

I am, indeed, cherishing these last bits of freedom.
