So I live in a hotly contested congressional district. Tom Reynolds is the Republican incumbant. Regular readers of this humble journal might recall him as the politician who sent me that ridiculous letter some months back questioning the question of just what an unintended pregnancy is (http://iamdamanda.livejournal.com/88386.html#cutid1). Reynolds has also recently gotten himself in trouble by having knowledge of that whole Mark Foley thing, thus prompting him to hold a press junkett with a bunch of kids in tow, thus getting him made fun of royally on the Daily Show.
Anyhoo. He's running against Jack Davis, some millionaire in Clarence, and the battle has been pretty neck and neck, depending on which poll you listen to. As someone who already had a strong dislike for Reynolds, I was pretty much leaning Jack Davis anyway. But I've been looking into where the guy stands and he's the better choice anyway. The places where I don't necessarily agree with Davis are the places where he tends to agree with Reynolds and the places where he disagrees with Reynolds are the places where I agree with him. So he's the better choice for me. I pretty much disagree with Reynolds on all the issues.
But that's not even the real reason I'm writing about this. I am very sick of hearing about this damn race already. The political ads are making me insane, and while they are not the only political ads on tv right now, they are the vast majority of them. I have seen commerical breaks where every single one was a nasty political ad. Not encouraging me to vote for you, folks, and definitely not helping my opinion of Tom Reynolds.
Even worse are the phone calls. We get a call at least once a day, if not more, that is a recorded message from either Tom Reynolds himself or some supporter of his. They either tell us how great Reynolds is or how awful Davis is. I'm not interested in either. To be fair, we did get a pro-Davis call once, but it was once and from an actual person, not a recording. Furthermore, the woman on the message wasn't really saying much other than that they were encouraging people to get out and vote. Hardly the ongoing nuisance that Reynolds has become in my life as of late.
I can't wait for Tuesday so I can live my life again without this bullshit. It's driving me absolutely frigging insane.
