i had to get up early this morning so i could sit at a table all day at Buff State for a teen summit. that early on a saturday, the only news on is on channel 4. they were doing a story about the old animatronic victorian dolls that were displayed in the windows of the old AM&A's downtown every year at Christmas. for those not from these parts, AM&A's was a local chain of department stores, but went out of business when i was a kid. the fate of these dolls has been up for discussion for well over a decade. anyway, that's not really the important part to this story. the point is this young female newscaster was doing a story about the old victorian dolls and she referred to them as being from the old Amanda's store. now this had me stumped for a second. and then i realized that the teleprompter must have used "and" instead of "&" because AM&A's would then be written AMandA's. now this newscaster was either from out of town or was too young to remember the store. either way, somebody at that station must have slapped themselves in the head when she read it that way. also, i think i should start writing my name AM&A.
