i've never done the annual neighborhood garage sale on friday because i was always working. we only did it on saturday. this year, i have fridays off so i figured i'd do it. mom and john took the day off, as well, to help out. and my dad, it turns out, only had a training in the morning so he came by in the afternoon.

well, i will continue to do the garage sale on friday forevermore. john got up earlier than me and started setting up shortly after 7. people arrived at that time. seriously. i helped him with what was left a little after 8 and people were just coming and stopping in on their way to work and most importantly, buying stuff. we had a nonstop flow of people until at least noon, possibly later. not sure as time just flew on by with how busy we were.

we get very competitive about who makes more money. john creamed us all last year and i really thought i could beat him this year. well, he's currently in the lead with about $85, but i'm no slouch with a little over $60. we still have tomorrow, but there's not much left that's worth buying at this point.

as the day progressed, john would go in the house and come back out with something else to put out to sell. he was cracking me up the whole day, and i could be awfully grumpy about how he beats me, but then i remember that it's all leaving my house. and that is a good thing. what seems to put him on top is the playstation games. he can't get more than three bucks for them at EB Games so that's what he sells them for and he gets bored with the ones that seem like they'd be cool and popular (Matrix, Lord of the Rings, Batman, etc.). he also has an outrageous number of books so just a few every year helps him out. for some reason, john just has the kind of stuff that people buy at garage sales. i'm not sure what that means, exactly, but it's true.

the real surprise is that my dad actually cleaned stuff out of the basement AND people bought some stuff. he's made ten bucks so far. i mean, you gotta understand how amazing that is because his stuff is really just the oldest tools and hardware you can imagine. some guy bought this drill thingy that looked like it might have been the oldest electric drill in the world. didn't know what it was, but he decided to buy it anyway. i guess if my dad bought it in the first place, there are other men out there who will think it's just as good.

now i'm trying to think of other things we can put out tomorrow to sell...

Good Lord! Dad willingly sold things? What on earth could he do without?
