i'm officially done with INXS. they picked one of the guys i most hated on the show to be their new lead singer. he's an arrogant prick who seems to be doing his best impression of Michael Hutchence when he sings one of their songs.
they should have picked Marty, who is his own person with oodles of talent and a willingness to move that band into a more modern era. although, to be honest, i think Marty will be better off having a career of his own, and i will be his biggest fan. hey, a few weeks ago he did the most obscenely awesome version of "Baby One More Time" so i was sold at that point.
i have loved INXS. saw them in concert when Jennie Hoppe won tickets in 9th grade. "Kick" is one of the greatest albums of all time. but i'm done with them.
and as much as i truly, truly enjoyed this show, it disturbs me that they were promoting people to send in tapes so they can do this again next year. what band is Mark Burnett going to pull out of oblivion next?

Date: 2005-09-22 03:15 pm (UTC)From:it was the fact that INXS was involved that did make it a bit sketchy. but if you ignored that aspect, which was easy to do most of the time because who knows anything about any members of the band other than Michael Hutchence, it was a cool talent show.
i'm actually making a cd of the people i liked from the clips offered on MSN. and if Marty Casey gets a career out of this, i'm all over it.

Great band, but if you lose Steven Tyler (or replace him with someone else) they are NOT Aerosmith! The lead singer is normally the face of the band and the name that people mostly associate with the band. Switching a drummer or guitarist is different. Lose your lead singer, call yourself something else.

Date: 2005-09-23 10:19 pm (UTC)From:i might have stuck with INXS a while if i had liked the singer they picked. and the contestants were good enough in my opinion that the odds were in favor of me sticking with them. but i was not overly surprised that they picked J.D. i still think it's probably better for Marty if he gets his own career. and i hope that he does because i really enjoyed him, particularly his original song that he wrote. i went on MSN and bought it.
there's definitely a level of skeeviness with them having done this show in the first place and i really justified watching it in that i have been an INXS fan, but more really that it was like American Idol with music i listen to. which is why i'll probably watch the next incarnation even if i don't care about the band that gets pulled out of the woodwork for that one.
