words of wisdom by Sam Roberts, headliner for last night's Thursday in the Square. this has, sadly, been the only one i've made it to this summer, despite other bands i wanted to see very much. kelly knows it was a great sacrifice for me to go to her rehearsal dinner instead of going to see Lowest of the Low.

Sam did not disappoint. i saw him there last year, but ran into too many people i knew at that one and wound up talking more than paying attention. great show. with the exception of the Celine Dions out there, Canadians really kick ass in the world of music.

and Sam was very gracious with his fans. after the encore, he shook hands with pretty much everyone that was at the front of the stage. we were on the barriers on the side so when he came down, the crowd standing with us cheered so he'd come over to see us, as well, and he did. he shook hands, gave hugs, signed autographs, and even waited patiently for a girl to figure out her camera so she could take a picture. i shook his hand while he either checked out my chest or the neon pink Jem and the Holograms t-shirt i had on. hard to tell which with that shirt.

even john enjoyed himself, and he admits he's not really into live shows unless it involves swing dancing. how i married someone who doesn't like live shows is beyond me. i like music i can feel and being right there you can really feel it, literally and figuratively. what's not to love?

oh no you did not just hate on Celine Dion. I was not a Celine fan myself, (in fact, I do a pretty funny impression of her a la SNL) until I saw her live at Caesars Palace. You want to talk about how a live show can change things...I am officially a huge Celine fan now. Of all the shows I've ever seen - concert, musical, dance performance, cirque du soliel - this was the best show I've ever seen. It was like seeing a Cirque Show, the NYC Ballet, a Broadway musical, and one of the most beautiful, heartfelt, kick-ass vocal performances ever...all at once. And I sat second row center. And she smiled right at me.
I'm not afraid to say it - I love Celine Dion. Guaranteed, if you saw her show in Vegas, you'd feel the same.

PS so jealous you have a Jem and the Holograms shirt.
