1) it's a red state. superconservative and they like their guns.
2) Missoula seems to be the exception with a hippie-esque downtown and a decent hard rock station.
3) casinos are everywhere, including attached to every damn gas station.
4) there are also a lot of pawn shops...
5) and tiny little espresso huts.
6) plan ahead if going to Glacier National Park to make sure you can find someplace to stay.
7) when traveling to Glacier, remember that even the small hikes are killer if you're a wuss like me.
8) if going to Glacier and you only have time to see one thing, make sure it's Logan's Pass. bring warm clothing for that section because it's really windy, and watch for lots of mountain goats.
9) there's an obscene number of old VW bugs, which i wouldn't have normally noticed if not for the ongoing game of Punchbug john and i are having.
10) they have great names for things here. some of my personal favorites include beer names of Moose Drool and Bong Water, and the gas station Kum & Go (there's also Town Pump, but i could have sworn when we pulled in that it was Town Pimp).
11) if you're into buffalo meat and/or huckleberries, this is the place to be.
12) the Super Foods grocery stores have the fastest scrolling signs in the entire world. not only can you not read them as fast as they change, but it might induce seizures with all the quick flashing.
