so my mom somehow got subscribed to one of those romance book clubs where they send you books and it's almost impossible to get them to stop. here's the thing. this one sends her christian romance books. ever read a romance novel? pretty racy. christian romance? well, she says they do a lot of hand holding. now, this is a woman with a glow-in-the-dark virgin mary on her bedside table, but these books are too boring for her.

my best friend is in town. he planned to come home because i was going to make him go to our 11 year high school reunion. except i'm not going now. i'm leaving tomorrow night for montana to see john's cousin. oh well. then i don't have to explain my unemployment. but i digress.
i went over to see kevin this afternoon. his mom had asked him to clean out any stuff he wanted from his room and he found some letters, including a bunch from me from various periods over the years. he had pulled out one from our first semester at college before we got really into e-mail because he couldn't quite remember something i referenced. we figured it out and then went digging through the rest of the letters. more from that first semester. a bunch from when he was in london. and mixed in with some other gems from other people, were some absolutely fabulous notes i wrote to him when we were "going out" in 8th grade. mostly boring and junior high at its finest, but he actually found the note where i had asked him out. i was pretty much mortified because it's a real beauty. and then proceeded to read it to his girlfriend when she called and his mom when she got home. ugh.
but he did bring me back a dashboard hula girl from his trip to hawaii. no offense, julie, but this one is way better than the one you sent me. she's a real fat hula dancer with rolls and everything and she really wiggles. it's awesome.

since i'm now a board member of the YWCA of the Tonawandas, i signed up to help out with the annual Canal Fest Diaper Derby. i worked the registration table. i love the Diaper Derby, but it's weird that there were a ton of parents that i recognized from high school. including one other dude i dated for about a week in 8th grade.
