i'm all excited because i have this dress i bought when i lived in burlington that i adore, and i can fit into it again. perhaps even better with a little more weight than i had when i bought it creating some nice cleavage. i'm excited because i would like to wear it to kelly's wedding this month. i even went out and bought some shoes to go with it. however, i just pulled it out to put it with the shoes, and i noticed a stain. grr. i have the home dry-cleaning kit so i figured i'd try using the stain removal stuff that comes with. i was glad that it was working, but then i realized it's stained all over. basically, it yellowed from being in my closet for a few years. damn. so here's to hoping i can get it out or i may have to go out and buy a new dress right quick. not that that's a total downside.

now sometimes complaining pays off. when i was staying with mike thursday night, john called me to tell me that our scrubbing bubbles shower cleaner started all by itself out of the blue and wouldn't shut off. hmmm. spooky. i have this giant drawer in the basement full of every manual to every item that ever came with a manual. so i found the manual to check out the warranty. i also dug through credit card statements to figure out when i bought the damn thing because the warranty is for a year. interestingly enough, i bought it on halloween. but the point here is that i called the number on the warranty and had a nice chat with the lady that answered and she is sending me a coupon for a totally free new machine. ha! and john was just going to throw it out and buy a new one.

you should consider taking it to a professional cleaner. i prefer the ones run by old ladies or old italian men. they always seem to know what they're doing. they totally saved an old suit that I thought was completely trashable.

I won't tell you if I've ever ruined clothing (okay, only very rarely), living by this credo - NOTHING is really dry clean ONLY. Be prepared for cashmere and silk to shrink a little, but suede pants are fine. When you only buy shit on clearance you're more willing to take the chance and throw it in the wash. I've never been to the dry cleaner. I don't iron either, unless I'm going to a canference and want to try and blend with the adults. "Yeah right, you BLEND", says cousin vinnie...
