while my parents are in arizona, their dog is staying with us. it's been interesting having two dogs and john loves it and keeps plying for us to get another one. but they are not small dogs and are perpetually under foot. it also means double the dog hair and double the poop scooping. i swear double dogs has been feeling like quadruple dogs. whew!
i must admit, though, that the differences between doc and beezley are quite amusing. beeze is our black lab. doc is mom's greyhound/brown lab mix. doc is so damn skinny compared to our big barrel with legs. he's also totally skittish and has to go out constantly for only two seconds at a time. beeze will go out only if absolutely necessary when it's this hot out and stays out for a while. doc is clearly not the dominant dog compared to bully beezley, with the interesting exception of the occasional growling at the food bowls. that has been a fascinating turn of events.
so everyday i have to go over to mom's to give the cat some of her stinky food for her delicate stomach. i remember the cat we had growing up never needed anyone to stop in. we'd leave out extra food and water and she could take care of herself. so i don't know why this cat now needs constant attention, but whatever. so i go to say hello to darth kitty and feed the fish. i've discovered a frog living in their pond. i wonder if it's one of the tadpoles they grew in the pond last year come back to live. in any case, he's been there everyday this week and he doesn't seem to mind me.
one sad moment in animal land. between my house and my mom's, i generally pass any number of animals. geese, ducks, deer, groundhogs. today on my way there, one rather unfortunate groundhog decided to run across traffic. i swerved to avoid him, nearly missing him with my front tire. and then there was this little thud under the back tire. crap. i probably would have just slammed on the brakes and let him pass, but i had doc in the car, who refuses to sit down, and he would have gone flying. poor little groundhog. doc is always trying to catch them so i guess that one was for him.
