wanted to spend some more time describing the awesome plane ride home. well, from manchester to newark, nothing too exciting, although i was very excited to see the Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building as we came in.

now i had joked before we left about how we'd be perfectly timed to see some fireworks on our last flight in. fireworks to me have always been one of those things that you just go to because it's what you do. i've never been overly excited one way or the other about them. and since john is generally not all that interested in them, i haven't cared about missing them on occasion.

so we got on our plane out of newark and got stuck in a very long traffic jam on the runway of planes wanting to take off. sick of cramped spaces, i was very antsy about sitting still on the damn plane, but then i noticed i could see NYC's fireworks. and they were good. so that kept me entertained until we moved a little and turned so i couldn't see them. but then there were fireworks from a different part of NYC. john guessed maybe over the Lincoln Center because they were very well organized, perhaps set to music. then we turned some more and i could see New Jersey's fireworks. also impressive. so no matter where we turned on that runway, i could see some.

and then we took off. i wish i could describe how amazing it was to see all those fireworks from above them. it was just awesome, brilliant. and i could see dozens as we went higher. just miles and miles of different fireworks displays.

and all across new york state, the whole plane ride home, i could see dozens and dozens of flashes of light, some bigger and better than others, in greens, reds, oranges. god, it was outstanding. the bigger ones were grouped more around well-lighted areas, whereas less lighted areas had a lot more of what i would guess were amateur fireworks. but no matter, it was just fantastic the whole way.

i was in awe.

it kinda made up for the awful plane ride to manchester, and perhaps ties with the trip to italy where we got to see both the sunset and sunrise.
