a lot of bands that i've been listening to for years have come out with new cds lately so i've been on a major cd buying binge the past few weeks. most of them have been okay, but not the best efforts of said bands.
however, i feel i must point out one astonishing exception. i decided to purchase William Shatner's "Has Been." this may be one of the best cds i have heard in a while. i mean, i'm a fan of the old school Star Trek, but what really inspired me to buy this disk was Shatner's last hysterical effort with Ben Folds on the Fear of Pop cd. and then i heard a bunch of the tracks on Howard Stern. so i had to buy it and i don't regret even one penny i spent on it. it's so funny. even the tracks that aren't funny are actually pretty good. in fact, the one about finding his drowned wife in their pool is downright moving. but it's mostly funny. i can't decide which is my favorite. it could be his version of "Common People." it could be the one where he says to "live life like you're gonna die, 'cause you're gonna." it could be "Has Been." but i think it's the major screaming rant that he does with henry rollins, "I Can't Get Behind That." go buy this cd!
also, i feel i would be remiss if i didn't mention my other current favorite cd that is also on heavy rotation in my car. my friend kelly suggested i might like this band fleming & john so i "borrowed" a cd of hers, called "the way we are." i love this chick's voice. it's so much fun to sing along with. and each song is totally different from the other and they're all totally different from what you find on the radio. oh, and they did a bunch of guest work on Shatner's cd, so extra kudos for them.
