for anyone that doesn't know, i'm a bit of a comic book geek. not the geekiest i've seen, but i do have a giant filing cabinet and then some full of comics. my husband has many more than i do. he collects pretty much everything Batman related. i started off with Anne Rice adaptations and Wonder Woman, an old favorite of mine, dating back to the Lynda Carter show from the 70s that i watched back in the day in my Underoos. for christmas this year, i received the complete first season of Wonder Woman, and i am truly enjoying how absolutely awful it is. awesomely bad, as they say on VH1.
for starters, the theme song. it is so funky. it gets stuck in my head all the time so that i'm running around the house singing, "In your satin tights, fighting for your rights." i mean, how great are those lyrics? i never get sick of it.
and then there's the dialogue. i realize it was the 70s, but could people have really thought this was good, or did they really know just how damn funny this stuff was? let me give you the best example i have found so far. this is good. the military guy that Wonder Woman is in love with is always complementing her on how great she is, but this one goes above and beyond:
"If they gave merit badges for being fantastic, you'd be an Eagle Scout after that."
i laughed so hard and had to keep rewinding it. now, for the full effect, think of Zapp Branigan's voice from Futurama and that is exactly how he sounded. to the point that i had to immediately look up who does that voice and make sure it wasn't him (it wasn't).
