Something like three years ago, I took a civil service exam for a position as a case manager for witnesses and victims of crime.

Today I received some mail from the county DA's office, which had me a little concerned, so I opened that up as soon as I saw it.  And it's a letter basically saying that my name came up on their list for this position and would I be interested in starting it immediately, on the contingency, of course, that they actually want to hire me after an interview.  If yes, send the form back with a resume and references.  If no, then I will have my name stricken from the list, though I could write and ask to have it reinstated to the list after three months has passed.

Three years ago, I would have jumped on this.  However, I have since changed my focus and this no longer fits in with my long-term career goals, and would actually steer me away from the direction I'd like to go in.  I really do intend on going the whole "stricken from the list" route, but since I'm looking for jobs currently and it's slim pickings in higher ed right now...

I just have to laugh about how so much in my life has been a series of bad timing.
