Well, Nora's crib got recalled. Apparently the drop gate in a reported 9 out of 600,000 cribs sold has come loose, posing a potential entrapment hazard, although no injuries have actually occured. I'm not trying to belittle the seriousness of a crib recall, but as my dad said when I told him, "Oh no! And it was safe just yesterday!" So we're not immediately taking it down before we even have a chance to figure out what we're doing first. Since day one I've always tested out the drop gate daily by pushing my weight down on it just to make sure it's holding up and I see no problems. Plus it comes with the attached changing table/bedside stand that I really use a lot for storage. I was wondering if I could return the crib portion minus the table portion without them realizing.
Oh, and of course my mom bought the crib and doesn't have the receipt still because she doesn't even have receipts from last week, let alone two years ago. So if Burlington will take it back, we'd probably get stuck with $300 store credit at a store I don't want even $20 worth of stuff. The brands of cribs they carry now are not ones I want to by so getting a replacement there would be out of the question.
So what we're thinking is that since the drop gate is the issue with the recall, we may just go ahead and convert it into toddler bed mode and try that out with her. I inquired of the Geekparents community and many there said they did toddler beds around this age. I inquired at daycare and they said Nora stays on her mat after she wakes up from her nap until they get her up. Thus, we are going to try Nora out with the toddler bed and hope she stays there instead of getting out and getting into all sorts of trouble in her room...
