Wedding Bells
Nov. 28th, 2004 08:31 pmso i of course left later than i was supposed to for jackie's wedding in utica, but we should still have made it on time with a couple minutes to spare, especially since john went out of his comfort level and sped more than he normally would have. however, we thought that we would actually be able to stop at a dunkin' donuts and pick up a couple of egg sandwiches. i'm guessing the girl went back and hatched the eggs herself before cooking them because we were waiting there for twenty fricking minutes. twenty! but i figured we were still okay because i've been to a million weddings and not a single one has ever started on time. ever. we got there at 2:10 and that wedding must have started right on time because they were already on the gospel when we snuck in. damn. but it was a nice ceremony, regardless.
we got our hotel room, chilled out for a bit, and hit the reception. a good time was had by all, especially john who got to show off his dancing skills. he loves to show off his dancing skills, and rightfully so.
for whatever reason, neither john nor i got any sleep. the bed was too squishy, the room was too hot, there were way too many noises, and we're both so used to sleeping with my fan now that it's impossible to sleep without it.
we all went our separate ways in the morning so john and i hit denny's. it was still really weird to be in rome and the general vicinity after all the time i've spent there and after all the time that's passed since that time. i drove by so many things both today and yesterday that had a million memories attached to them. i mean, even the knights of columbus where sean and i played bingo under the pope's picture and the sangertown mall in new hartford that i always loved. i kept having to look over my shoulder like i used to do when visiting burlington in case sean happened to pop up. i don't have to worry about burlington now that he's living in europe, but in rome, there's still his family i could run into. i do wonder what i would have said to any of them if i had run into them, but the point is moot.
anyhoo. drove home through some horrific rain, actually had a drink with green tea in it for the caffiene, got some groceries on the way down transit as well as our pictures printed at walgreen's, and now we are just dealing with a pure state of exhaustion.
i love weddings, but i love my bed, too.
