On a more somber note, I wanted to mark the passing of a member of the family.
A little over 12 years ago, Julie went to the SPCA and found this poor, pathetic dog. He was a three year old greyhound/lab mix. He was completely skin and bones. He'd had his tail amputated so he was wearing this neon green bandage on his little stub and he had on one of those plastic lampshade things to keep him from biting it. I have no idea how she convinced Mom to bring this dog home.
Perhaps it was the way he wagged his entire rear end to compensate for lack of tail. Or how he was an exact lookalike for the Simpsons dog. Or the way he refused to believe he was anything other than a person, and certainly not an actual dog.
Whatever it was, Doc was a really and truly great dog. His first three years might not have been so good, but overall, I'd say he had 15 years well lived.
And I'd like to think he's off somewhere chasing (and catching) his fill of groundhogs.
